With nearly 30 years of retail and collecting experience under his belt, Jay has provided numerous appraisals for individuals and businesses, such as the University of Alberta. Whether for resale, insurance, or just curiosity, Jay can assist you in assessing your collection.
BEFORE YOU GET AN APPRAISAL!
Why are you looking for one? Typically appraisals are done either to establish the value of an item for resale or for insurance purposes. If you’re just curious if your comics MIGHT be valuable, there is an excellent resource for that. You can visit comicbookrealm.com to get a quick glance at your books to see if it’s worth the time and cost to get a proper appraisal done.
If you are looking for an appraisal for insurance purposes, there are a few steps to do before we get to the assessment. Should things get to the appraisal point, the rates for appraisals are $50/hr.
For that you will get;
- A letter of qualification for your insurance agent/broker
- A fully itemized list of your collection
- Grades for each item
- Values for each item (averaged from at least 2 sources)
- A letter of appraisal for your insurance provider
There are things that can be done to reduce the amount of time needed to assess your books. Time varies depending on the age and condition of the books but I will work with you beforehand to make sure you have a good idea of the costs before we begin.
