APPRAISALS

With 30 years of retail and collecting experience under his belt, Jay has an expert eye, and has provided numerous appraisals for individuals, businesses, and special collections such as the University of Alberta.* Whether for resale, insurance, or just curiosity, Jay can assist you in assessing your collection.

BEFORE YOU GET AN APPRAISAL

Why are you looking for one? Appraisals are typically done to establish the value of an item either for resale or for insurance purposes. If you're just curious if your comics MIGHT be valuable, there is an excellent online resource for that. Visit comicbookrealm.com for a quick glance at your books to see if it's worth the time and cost to get a proper appraisal done.

If you're interested in getting your books graded through a certified service that seals them in plastic cases (a.k.a. "slabbed"), such as CGC, PGX, or CBCS, Jay can assist with that as well.

If you are looking for an appraisal for insurance purposes, there are a few steps to do before we get to the assessment. Once we get to the appraisal step proper, the appraisal rate is $50/hour. The appraisal includes:

  • • A letter of qualification for your insurance agent/broker.
  • • A fully itemized list of your collection.
  • • Grades for each item.
  • • Values for each item (averaged from at least two sources).
  • • A letter of appraisal for your insurance provider.

There are steps that can be taken to reduce the amount of time needed to assess your books. The total time required for assessment varies depending on the age and condition of the books. Jay will work with you beforehand to make sure you have a good idea of the costs up front.
